There's no need for your holier-than-thou attitude that reeks of self-consciousness. He just got here and is still at that wide-eyed and full of wonder stage. Let him enjoy it. It's just a blog. Get over yourself. He'll learn in time.

Several times now you've disparaged American habits while praising Japanese ones (particularly in regards to food). The main problem with this is that not all Americans (nor all Japanese) are the same.

It's possible to appreciate the Japanese way without putting down your home culture. At the very least, you may want to stop speaking for all Americans and only speak for yourself like "it's healthier than what I have for breakfast."

Hello Joe,
Your blog is great, it's like a well written novel. You really should put all of this into audio as a podcast. That's what I'm trying to do, record my adventures in and impressions of Japan. But 37 years erodes the memories of the early days, and takes away the ability to see and hear the little things that make Japan what it is. You just got here and still haven't lost that ability. Don't just blog. While your thoughts are still fresh, record them in audio too .
Regards,
Dan
